WebGD Applications |
 |
|
|
-
Geographical features, such as the locations of road work
and habitats of plants and animals, can be
entered, searched, updated, and deleted from
standard Web browsers.
-
An application can be created without any programming.
The look and behavior of the map interface
can be customized with configuration files,
and Web scripts for data access can be automatically
generated from the description of a database schema.
Thus, a WebGD application can be created rapidly and at a lower cost.
-
We created the WebGD framework by using only free open-source
software. Therefore, the framework is available for anyone for free use.

Germplasm
Explore and Map - GIS (GEM-GIS)
This application is for the management of genetic resources.
The web-based map interface supports, in addition to navigation on maps,
the following features.
A user can specify the location of the habitat of an accession on the map
when an accession is entered in the database.
The accessions within a rectangular area specified on the map
can be searched for with additional search conditions.
The habitat locations of the accessions retrieved by a query can be displayed
on the map.
The information on an accession whose habitat location is displayed
on the map can be retrieved with a mouse-click on the habitat location.
This application uses open-source software tools and GIS

Motels Oregon
Motels Oregon was developed to demonstrate the benefits of a
Web-based GIS/database application.
It is designed to help motel businesses reach customers effectively.
By using an interactive map along with a relational database,
a user can view any area of the map and perform database operations
as their group privileges permit. For example, a motel owners are
able to insert or delete her motels. In addition, she can
insert, update, and modify data associated with her motels.
As the background of the map, USGS DOQQs of 1-meter resolution are used.
This application was first implemented with ArcIMS and
ArcSDE and then reimplemented with MapServer, PostgreSQL,
and PostGIS.
